CERN Open Hardware Licence

The CERN Open Hardware Licence (CERN OHL) is a legal tool to promote collaboration among hardware designers and support the freedom to use, study, modify, share and distribute hardware designs, and products based on those designs. Version 2 of the CERN OHL comes in three variants:

  • CERN-OHL-S (strongly reciprocal)
  • CERN-OHL-W (weakly reciprocal)
  • CERN-OHL-P (permissive)

Please visit the CERN OHL v2 home to access the texts for the different variants as well as a rationale document explaining drafting decisions and a list of frequently asked questions.
